The time has arrived to start thinking about new ways that will enable us to print Bibles digitally in an efficient and affordable way, in quantities ranging from one up to thousands of copies. Four important elements are required for us to be able to build a comprehensive ecosystem that will help us to fulfill our mission of making the Word of God available to everyone at an affordable price. We will call these the Four Pillars.
Even though we can observe a growing tendency around the world towards digital publication through apps and smartphones, research has shown that, at least during the next five years, the primary source of sustainability for Bible agencies will still come from print publishing. However, a solid publishing strategy is required to help Bible agencies to maneuver wisely in the digital age and continue their mission in a sustainable manner. That is why the United Bible Societies (UBS) have initiated this Bibles on Demand (BOD) project.
The Bibles on Demand project is an integrated part of the UBS Digital Publishing Strategy and a significant component of their mission to spread the Word of God and make the Holy Scriptures accessible for everyone.
Bibles on Demand has started as a pilot project, and its initial focus was on providing print-on-demand Bibles for the diaspora in the United States of America and Canada. The project is having a more solid structure and it will gradually expand. Our final goal is to provide the entire world with a one-stop-shop for print-on-demand Scripture, including Bibles, New Testaments, large prints, monoglots, diglots, etc.
